Read moreThe security situation in Iraq has changed drastically over the years, Al Baron’s expansion takes this into account to make sure that our services provide the best value for clients beyond the traditional methods of security provision. Al Baron offers a variety of services and our capabilities include mobile armed protection, accommodation and life support, airport meet and greet, static guards, Government of Iraq liaison, facilitation of visas and movement permissions, International Zone badging, security reporting, facility protection, and other requirements dependent on client requests Kinetic attacks on international companies, clients, and operations have significantly decreased though they remain a prominent risk consideration for companies operating in Iraq.
Further risk considerations include those related to a lack of cultural awareness and for projects operating on a long-term basis in Iraq, there may be an expectation of reinvestment in the country whether that be under the project, employment, or social engagement. As a locally owned company, Al Baron mitigates this risk and operates as an effective third-party mediator to manage national interests and engagement. We are able to provide briefings regarding cultural awareness and advice for individuals unfamiliar with local practices. Our blended structure means that as well as a complete cultural understanding, we have extensive links to Iraqi security forces and agencies and our analysis-backed planning ensures proactive procedures are in place. With this in mind, Al Baron services focus on the provision of security while supporting administrative requirements as well as being able to arrange and pay these expenses to reduce the need for clients to travel with large amounts of money. These aspects can be organized prior to deployment and based on a competitive rate.
All our convoys use two B6 armoured vehicles as standard in line with the requirements of the Ministry of Interior. The team will include 2x armed drivers and 2x team leaders. Upon client request this convoy arrangement can be expanded should the situation or risk appetite dictate. Al Baron staff maintain a constant awareness and monitoring of the risk environment and can therefore advise appropriately. This can operate as a pick-up and drop-off service to secure locations such as Embassies or alternatively, vehicles may remain close by on-site with staff providing Close Protection if the environment dictates it.
As we have well-established movement plans and are familiar with the majority of locations and routes it is unlikely that a movement will require reconnaissance prior to deployment. However, should a client request a recce, if we have not visited a location for some time, or if the security situation drastically changes, Al Baron can send a prior reconnaissance team and provide an assessment of the area to ensure that movement is in line with a company’s acceptable standards of risk.
This support can be established on a long-term basis, or for shorter visits to Iraq an ad-hoc service for use as required. This ensures that services provide value and remain flexible while providing consistency. Al Baron is willing and able to customize to your company and personnel.
operating as a base for staff. A detailed overview of the facilities and hospitality available from Al Baron can be provided upon request. Al Baron client facilities are secure and conform to required security standards as per the Iraqi security situation. This includes 24/7 armed guards all of whom are trained and experienced in their duties to provide reliable and professional support.
Our guards are managed and supervised by a local line manager and conduct regular exercises in emergency procedures.
Though we recommend Al Baron premises in the IZ as a first choice we are happy to provide alternative recommendations with security standards that exceed expectations while maintaining a high level of comfort. Booking can be arranged via Al Baron as part of facilitation fees.
All recommendations will be for locations previously used by Al Baron clients or staff with the knowledge that the alternative locations can be modified to suit office work with prior notice.
Al Baron ensures the routine renewal of movement permissions referred to as MVEN (Movement, English) and MVAR (Movement, Arabic) for Iraqi PSCs.
As such Al Baron is able to move freely through checkpoints. While these are routine in Baghdad more remote areas may require additional, specific information for approval- Al Baron is able to support this process and request a minimum of 72 hours’ notice for cross-provincial movement. Furthermore, although Al Baron operates as an independent PSC, we are capable and willing to support the movement of other companies throughout Iraq.
The aforementioned movements are monitored by our Operations Room located in the IZ.
The Ops room was established with external support from a globally recognised provider to keep a record of all movements and team information.
In addition, satellite transponders are utilized to track and monitor each team’s movement and provide immediate location statistics for routine reporting augmenting the verbal communications described above. In the event of an emergency situation, the team will activate their tacking panic alarm and inform the Operations Center to coordinate a response. Our Operations Center currently has the ability to interact with the Iraqi Baghdad and Basra Operations Command (BaOC & BOC) via local liaison representatives as required. This is vital in the event of an incident and coordinating local assets and response.
The Government of Iraq has allowed travelers to receive tourist visas upon entry which are valid for 60 days for tourist and social purposes. For travelers looking to work while in Iraq and stay beyond the 60-day deadline, Al Baron can support the application process for a 12-month visa.
